We had such an enjoyable visit to the FE McWilliams Gallery in Banbridge today. The bus came and lifted us and dropped us right at the door where we were greeted by the lovely Jason Diamond who facilitated our trip. Jason is Adam’s uncle and was brilliant with all the children, he welcomed us warmly and then showed us around the sculptures outside in the garden. The children enjoyed touching the sculptures and were encouraged to think about the material they were made from and why they were that shape.
The children were then given a clip board and sketch paper to draw the sculptures in the little studio, their drawings were so good. Next was the clay making workshop which resulted in 16 little clay heads which were carefully put together and lots of detail added. The children had such faces of concentration and focused so much on this activity.
After our workshop we said goodbye to Jason and moved on to Scarva Park. Scarva was our destination for our picnic lunch and then a run around. Our time was then up and we headed back to school in time for children to get the bus home.
This was such a great trip today, special thanks go to Jason and the Friends of the FE McWilliams Gallery for providing us with such a memorable time, we will definitely be back.
